For adding value to your home or office look no further than the long lasting and natural beauty of a timber blind, crafted from the highest grade Western Red Cedar. This is the ultimate window application for warmth and versatility.

Western Red Cedar is considered to be the most stable and durable of all timbers used for making timber blinds.

Hand crafted Cedar blinds are custom made to your requirements and include true superior quality, backed by over 15 years experience in industry knowledge and expertise.

 Timber Features & Origin

Having a reputation as one of the world’s largest cedars, this fine timber is renown in the industry for its stability, durability and variation in grain and colour, making it the most suitable timbers for blind making.

Cedar’s natural preservative oils make it highly resistant to the effects of time and weather and extremely suitable for Australian climate conditions.

Its unique cellular structure makes it a highly efficient insulator against heat, cold and noise. Western Red Cedar’s long density gives the smallest shrinkage of any commercial softwood, thus providing outstanding resistance to warping and twisting.

Imported to Australia in log form from large managed plantations in North America and British Columbia, the timber is kiln dried, (using the vertical grain to resist warping) and micro sanded before going through the lengthy process of becoming a blind.

Please note that OUR timber comes from plantation forests, we do not use tropical timbers in our production of timber blinds. Trees are replanted after harvesting, ensuring a continuous supply of Cedar for many years ahead.

 Components

  • Single action cord locks
  • Easy gliding tilt mechanisms
  • Colour co-ordinated and U.V. protected polyester ladders (double knit) and cords
  • Optional ladder tapes are also available

  • Heavy duty head box to carry the weight of the timber blind
  • Timber Acorns to enhance the timber blind effect
  • Heavy duty base rail - blind does not sag in the middle when pulled up

 Pelmets

  • All Cedar Venetians come with their own Cedar pelmets.
  • Fitted to the front of the head box or track to cover the mechanisms and brackets.
  • Available in a flat or a moulded finish.
  • Optional rear pelmets also available.

A choice of slat widths are available for decor and functional requirements.

  • 46mm (4.2mm)

  • 60mm (4.2mm)

    • clearer view
    • greater air flow
    • flexible light control and privacy
    • clear simple lines
    • easy to clean
    • gives the wide blade shutter look at a lower cost

The superior slat thicknesses (4.2mm) means the risk of the slat warping or bowing is minimised.

 Finishes
Not only is Western Red Cedar one of the most stable timbers available, it also offers beautiful grains, which can be highlighted when the timber is oiled, lacquered or stained, retaining uniqueness that not only protects its surface but enhances its beauty.

 Maintenance & Care
We at Dial a Blind believe that blinds should be treated like a piece of furniture rather than just another window covering, and the required maintenance for Cedar blinds depends highly on the care and attention given as well as the amount of sunlight exposure the blind receives.

Scandinavian Oil finishes may need re-oiling between 2 and 6 years. This will give the timber a rejuvenated look and smell, and helps prevent discolouration. Water, household cleaners or other substances should NOT be used for this type of finish.

Clear lacquer, stained clear lacquer and painted finishes in a normal environment require virtually no maintenance other than dusting or a careful wipe with a damp cloth or mild household cleaner. This will keep your blind looking and feeling new during its entire life cycle. Re-staining, lacquering or re-painting is NOT required for these types of finishes.
