Frequently Asked Questions

This section - the how, where and what of Dial A Blind - provides answers to questions frequently asked by our customers.

What is the best way to measure my windows?

The best way to measure your windows for blinds depends on a number of factors.

1) How deep is the window recess?  Most blinds need no less than 30mm to enable easy mounting and a good overall finish. In this situation, measure the internal width of the recess from 3 points (top, middle and bottom) and record the smallest measurement. Do the same for the height, again recording the smallest measurement.

2) If there is less than 30mm depth, a face fix mount will be necessary. Measure from one outside end of the architrave to the other outside edge, both top and bottom, recording the smallest measurement. Do the same for the height, again recording the smallest measurement. If there is no window architrave ie rendered or brick, measure both width and height to where you’d like your blind to cover.

3) Window locks, winders and door handles can often shorten a blinds life cycle, so when measuring your windows, be sure the blinds will be clear of any of these obstacles.

Can I have my blinds installed on a Saturday?

Yes. Be sure to mention this to your consultant when placing your order.

 Will my blinds fade?

The answer to this depends highly on the amount of sunlight the blind is exposed to. We always aim to selectively manufacture our blinds using materials and components containing ultra violet protecting agents but please keep in mind that anything exposed to the sun will suffer a degree of discolouration.

Will my timber blinds warp or bend?

No. Western Red Cedar is renowned in the industry for its stability and durability, making it the most suitable timber for blind manufacturing. While this is factual, Cedar is still a natural material and in the rare case of one or more slats warping, this will be evident in the initial weeks after installation. Dial A Blind will change any problem slats covered under warranty.

How do I clean and maintain my blinds?

All blinds including fabric type blinds can be easily cleaned with a mild household soap, warm water and a sponge. Regular dusting with a simple feather duster will prevent any build up of dust.

Can I keep my old verticals tracks and change the fabric only?

1) How many slats do you need?
2) What width are the existing slats eg. 127mm, 90mm etc?

If you don't have any slats, then count how many hookS OR PEGS there are on the track AND MEASURE THE DISTANCE FROM THE HOOK OR PEG TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW SILL. PLEASE BE SURE TO LET US KNOW IF IT IS A HOOK OR PEG SYSTEM AND EXACTLY WHERE YOU HAVE MEASURE TO.
